How I Brought a Simulated MMORPG to Life with Music – Ep. 1 | The First Tracks of Erenshor 🎮🎶

In the vast universe of video games, countless stories unfold — tales of heroic deeds, fantastic adventures, and imagined worlds where protagonists accomplish epic feats. At the same time, many narratives reveal deep dramas, painful losses, and moments of profound introspection.
Erenshor, the MMORPG I am composing music for, embodies all this: a fusion of heroism and tragedy, hope and nostalgia — all told through music.

Every sound is a memory, every silence a prophecy. In this article, I’ll guide you through the sonic heart of Erenshor, revealing the creative process behind the soundtrack and the deep meanings of its melodies.

Who I am and what I do: A Bard in the digital realm 🎭🎼

My name is Elrehon, a wandering bard who tells the heroes’ tales and the secrets of forgotten lands through music. Creating music for Erenshor has been a fascinating and challenging journey, because this game is not just any fantasy — it is a world rich with history, mythology, and deep emotions.
So far, I’ve composed three main tracks, with more to come as the story unfolds.

Echoes of Erenshor: The epic heart of the game ⚔️🔥

🎧 Listen on YouTube

The main theme, Echoes of Erenshor, perfectly represents the game’s dual nature. The piece is divided into two parts, like two faces of the same coin: one of heroism and hope, the other of drama and loss.

The first section is an anthem to glory — the courage to wield a sword and face destiny. Bold, rhythmic melodies are carried by French horns and trombones, evoking ancient battles and heroic feats. This theme aims to inspire the player’s strength and determination to explore unknown lands and rediscover lost memories.

The second part introduces a more melancholic leitmotif, telling the hidden sadness beneath the adventure’s surface. This melody symbolizes the buried memories of Erenshor — fragments of history the player uncovers piece by piece. This contrast adds emotional depth to the game, showing that heroism also comes with sacrifice and suffering.

Port Azure: A safe haven in the heart of the game 🏰🌿

🎧 Listen on YouTube

Port Azure is the social and logistical hub of Erenshor, the place where players gather, rest, and feel safe. The music reflects this role, featuring a calming 3/4 time signature — known for its soothing, rocking effect.

The 3/4 rhythm mirrors the human heartbeat, helping to slow it down and create a feeling of protection. The main melody is played on a flute, symbolizing human breath, as if the city itself breathes slowly to lull its inhabitants. This choice builds a warm, comforting atmosphere — a peaceful oasis in a sometimes harsh world.

Port Azure is more than just a stopover; it’s a true “hearth” for players, and its music conveys this with gentle care.

Braxonian Desert: The story of a God’s pain and punishment 🏜️🌞

🎧 Listen on YouTube

One of the most captivating aspects of the main theme is its connection to the Braxonian Desert, one of the most evocative and dramatic regions in the game. The legend behind this track tells of a God whose beloved was kidnapped by a necromancer and stripped of her powers.

To punish the necromancer and express his own grief, the God turned the land into a vast, burning desert. The music opens with a high, shimmering note symbolizing the sun scorching the sand, then slowly descends to evoke the desert’s vast emptiness and desolation.

The piece aims to convey not only the God’s sorrow but also the destructive yet melancholic power of the landscape itself. This music narrates a deeply emotional chapter of Erenshor, where even nature seems to weep an irreparable loss.

The role of music in the gaming experience 🎮🎵

The soundtrack of Erenshor is not just background music; it’s an integral part of the storytelling. Each piece is crafted to emotionally guide the player through the adventure’s phases.

From the heroic drive of Echoes of Erenshor pushing players to fight courageously, to the soothing melody of Port Azure, and the silent drama of Braxonian Desert, the music acts as a bridge between the player and the game world. It stimulates memory, builds atmosphere, and foreshadows events, turning each gameplay session into a unique, immersive experience.

What’s next? 🚀

While this article highlights three key tracks, my work on Erenshor continues. More pieces will be added to deepen the narrative — exploring new locations, characters, and crucial moments — always keeping memory and emotion at the core. All this during the game's Early Access!
